The painting itself is mostly dark. Deep browns and near-blacks fill the forest behind, which means long uncomplicated stretches where you can settle in without concentrating hard. Then the canopy above breaks into hundreds of small leaf shapes in rust, orange and gold, and the ground is scattered with the same. That's the demanding part, and it's best done in daylight.

The fire is the last thing you paint and the reward for the rest.

The 24-color version pushes the palette toward strong contrast, which suits the drama of a single light source in a dark wood. What earns 36 here is the fire and what it touches: the flames run from white-hot at the base through yellow and amber to deep orange at the tips, the leaves overhead catch that same light in graded steps, and the chairs shift from lit wood on one edge to shadow on the other. Those close warm tones are the whole atmosphere of the scene.
