The canvas splits cleanly into three jobs. The turquoise background is wide and fluid, filled with pale streaks of light and painted in long confident areas. The fruit is bright and geometric — every citrus slice a wheel of segments radiating from the center, each one its own numbered piece.

Her face is where the work is. Skin worked from lit cheekbone into shadow, dark hair falling in strands, and reflective orange lenses covering her eyes.

That leaves you a choice: start with the easy background and build momentum, or paint the face first while your patience is fresh.

The 24-color set would push it toward flatter, poster-like color with harder contrast. The design is better served by 36. Skin makes up a large share of the canvas and it's modeled continuously — cheek to jaw to collarbone with no hard line anywhere — and the fruit repeats the same trick, with grapefruit flesh running through several pinks and reds inside a single slice. Those steps are what keep the portrait from flattening.
