Coastal scenes are safe wall art in the best sense — they don't compete with anything, they suit a bedroom or a bathroom or a hallway, and nobody in the house objects to them. This one earns its place with color rather than drama.

It's also a well-balanced painting to work through. The upper half is broad: bands of blue running from the horizon toward you, soft white cloud shapes, distant headland in pale gray-blue. Long stretches where you can settle in and not think too hard.

The lower right is the opposite. Pink, red, orange and yellow blooms scattered through grass, hundreds of small marks, and a stone ledge underneath built from flat angular slabs. That's the part to save for good light.

The 24-color version gives you a bolder, more graphic coastline where the sea reads as clean bands of blue. This design suits 36 because nearly everything in it is graded. The water alone moves through turquoise, mid-blue and deep navy with white foam breaking over the rocks, the sky lightens toward the horizon, and the wildflowers carry several pinks and reds side by side in the same clump. Those steps are what create the distance across the bay.
