Goldfish Bowl

Petals lie scattered on the table around the bowl, catching the same light that comes through the window. They're the detail that tells you this is a still life and not a picture of a fish.

Glass is the hard part. The bowl is transparent, which means what you're painting is not the bowl but everything seen through it — flowers distorted at the edges, the waterline across the top, highlights on the curve. Those transitions need 36 colors to hold up.

The 24-color version simplifies the glass into cleaner shapes and stronger contrast. The flowers stay bright and the whole thing reads more like an illustration, which is a fair trade if you'd rather not spend an evening on reflections.

The dark wood surround gives you rest. Large, quiet areas where you can put the brush down mentally for a while.

Small canvas, dense subject. This paint by numbers still life suits someone who likes working slowly on a single object rather than filling a landscape.

We recommend the 36-color version for this design.

24 or 36 colors — which version?

It's simply how many different shades the design is painted with. The 24-color version has a clean, classic look and is a little easier to paint. The 36-color version adds extra shades for smoother blending and a more realistic finish. Both come with all the paint you need to complete your canvas — the number is about shades, not how much paint.
