Jesus Crown of Thorns Paint by Numbers Kit

Narrow thorns lie across the waves of hair, so the band over the forehead needs neat, deliberate edges.

Bowed head, closed eyes, and a full beard sit in front of a terracotta halo in this Jesus crown of thorns paint by numbers kit.

On the 16x20 in (40x50 cm) canvas the head and shoulders fill nearly the full height, with sage curves behind and a cream sash across the chest. Suits a painter who wants a Passion subject in a calm, earthy palette, since the halo, the robe, and the sage curves are broad flat areas.

Hair, beard, and thorns make up most of the head, so the choice comes down to how they are shaded. 36 colors adds extra brown steps inside the waves and a softer shadow along the cheek, and 24 colors keeps the waves in strong, simple bands with crisp contrast, so the canvas finishes sooner.

Finished, the terracotta halo and the dark hair form a strong frame around the face, and the sage curves behind them hold the corners of the canvas.

We recommend the 24-color version for this design.

24 or 36 colors — which version?

It's simply how many different shades the design is painted with. The 24-color version has a clean, classic look and is a little easier to paint. The 36-color version adds extra shades for smoother blending and a more realistic finish. Both come with all the paint you need to complete your canvas — the number is about shades, not how much paint.
