Almost the whole canvas is dark, and that changes how you paint it.

The scene works from a single light source. A full moon sits behind the towers, the windows glow amber, and everything else — the cliffs, the pines, the mountains, the water — is worked in deep blues and near-blacks. Those dark areas are large and forgiving, which means long stretches of steady progress before anything demanding arrives.

The demanding part is the reflection. Below the shoreline the entire castle repeats in broken bands across the water, and every lit window has its own wavering column of gold running down toward you. It's the slowest section and the one that finishes the painting.

Night scenes hang differently from bright ones. This suits a study, a landing, a room with lamps rather than daylight, and it holds a wall on its own without needing anything beside it.

The 24-color version pushes it toward a bolder poster reading, with the moon and windows punching hard against flat dark shapes. What makes 36 the right call is the blue. This design carries an unusual number of separate blues — pale sky, mid cloud, slate mountain, deep water, near-black rock — layered against each other to build the depth, plus a run of golds from pale moon through amber window to the darker reflected light. Those close values are the atmosphere.

24 or 36 colors — which version?

It's simply how many different shades the design is painted with. The 24-color version has a clean, classic look and is a little easier to paint. The 36-color version adds extra shades for smoother blending and a more realistic finish. Both come with all the paint you need to complete your canvas — the number is about shades, not how much paint.
