What makes this version worth painting is how far the color is pushed. The sky runs magenta into red into a wide band of gold, the sand picks up the same heat, and the palms are cut out against it as near-black silhouettes. Nothing here is subtle, and it shouldn't be.

The silhouettes are also what make it manageable. Every frond, trunk and rock is a solid dark shape with a hard edge, so a large part of the canvas fills quickly in one or two colors.

The work slows down at the waterline. Surf, foam and the long reflected path of the sun are built from dozens of thin horizontal strokes in white, gold and blue, and that band across the middle is where most of your painting time will go.
