That empty sky matters more than it looks. It gives you a third of the canvas in soft grays and whites — the easy part, the part you do while your mind is elsewhere — before the town below asks for your full attention.

And it does ask. Every house has its own siding lines, window frames, roof pitch and shadow, and they overlap so tightly that you paint one clapboard wall, then a gable, then a chimney, working across in small steps. Nobody finishes this one quickly.

The look suits a coastal home, a hallway or anywhere the muted reds, ochres and slate blues can sit against plain paint. It also appeals to a particular kind of buyer — the one who likes architecture, order, and being able to point out which house they painted first.

The 24-color version simplifies the palette into cleaner blocks of red, blue, ochre and cream, which reads well from across a room. Thirty-six is the better fit for what's actually here: the wood siding is weathered, so almost every wall runs through two or three values of the same color, the slate roofs shift from near-black to blue-gray, and the overcast sky is built entirely from soft close grays that need the extra steps to stay atmospheric.
