That viewpoint does something a wide shot wouldn't — the planks run away from you toward the water, so the scene opens up rather than sits in front of you. It's a quiet piece, and it works in a bedroom or beside a reading chair better than in a busy room.

The design is drawn in flat bands: the sky broken into horizontal strips of apricot, coral and grey-blue, the water repeating them as broken reflections all the way to the jetty.

Painting it is unhurried work. Hard edges throughout, nothing to blend, and the reflections are the section people say they enjoyed most — a lot of small irregular shapes that come together into moving water.

The 24-color version fits this artwork as drawn: flat unblended blocks in a limited range of oranges, greys and browns, with clean boundaries and no gradients anywhere. 24 covers the full palette.
