Sunset Lake Paint by Numbers Kit

A warm terracotta sun meets cool olive hills, and the lake answers with a trail of orange ripples. Layered ridges in sage, olive and rust step back beneath a pale sky dotted with sand clouds in this sunset landscape paint by numbers kit.

Only the ripples on the lake break into small shapes, and they shrink in a steady pattern from wide at the top to short at the bottom; everything else is wide and open.

From the pale sky to the darkest hill in the foreground, 24 colors covers the full palette: cream for sky and water, sand for the clouds, the low hill and the shallows, terracotta and rust for the sun and the middle ridge, orange for the ripples, and a run of greens from sage to deep forest for the hills. Each hill is a single flat tone with a clean outline, so the ridges step back one behind the other.

On the 16x20 in (40x50 cm) canvas the sun sits just above center, with the ridges stacked below it and the lake in the lower third. A good first landscape, because every hill is a broad, open shape and the sky stays one calm field of cream.

24 or 36 colors — which version?

It's simply how many different shades the design is painted with. The 24-color version has a clean, classic look and is a little easier to paint. The 36-color version adds extra shades for smoother blending and a more realistic finish. Both come with all the paint you need to complete your canvas — the number is about shades, not how much paint.
