The Blue Dome

An arch inside an arch, and beyond both of them a turquoise dome under a clear sky.

The framing is what makes this composition work. You're standing in shadow looking out into full sun, with tilework crowding the foreground on every side — deep indigo, gold and teal, patterned right up to the edge of the canvas.

It's an architectural piece rather than a landscape, and it suits a hallway or a study where someone will stand close enough to look at the detail properly.

That detail is the project. Geometric tile patterns, calligraphic panels, a dome covered in fine repeating motifs. Small areas throughout, all with clean hard edges and nothing to blend.

The 24-color version keeps the indigo and gold contrast strong and simplifies the tilework. This paint by numbers design suits 36: the blues run from pale sky through turquoise and teal to deep navy across the tiles, the stone moves through several sand and ochre tones, and it's those close steps that stop the patterns from flattening into one blue mass. We recommend the 36-color version for this design.

24 or 36 colors — which version?

It's simply how many different shades the design is painted with. The 24-color version has a clean, classic look and is a little easier to paint. The 36-color version adds extra shades for smoother blending and a more realistic finish. Both come with all the paint you need to complete your canvas — the number is about shades, not how much paint.
