The Sower

Two colors, one big sun, and a whole painting made out of them.

The sower paint by numbers kit divides straight across the middle: a yellow sky above with the sun sitting right on the horizon, and a blue-violet field below with a man walking through it, scattering seed.

The field is where the hours go — the soil is broken into thousands of short strokes in blue, gold and gray, each one its own numbered shape, and it fills the bottom two thirds of the canvas.

Above it the sky moves fast. Long rays run out from the sun in one flat yellow after another, and the wheat behind the field is a single warm band.

The design comes in two versions, one printed in 24 colors and one in 36. With 24 colors the contrast between the yellow sky and the violet ground stays sharp and the picture reads from across the room. With 36 colors the soil gets more variation and the sky's rays step more gradually into the horizon.

We recommend the 24-color version for this design.

24 or 36 colors — which version?

It's simply how many different shades the design is painted with. The 24-color version has a clean, classic look and is a little easier to paint. The 36-color version adds extra shades for smoother blending and a more realistic finish. Both come with all the paint you need to complete your canvas — the number is about shades, not how much paint.
