Monet Woman in the Garden

Monet's Woman in the Garden (Sainte-Adresse), 1867 — an early work, his cousin's wife in a pale dress with a parasol beside a round bed of red flowers, dark foliage and poplars rising behind. The "cL" monogram lower left is Monet's early signature.

Unlike his later loose canvases, this one is composed and detailed: crisp light on the white dress, a bright flowerbed against a wall of deep green, clear blue sky above.

Detailed work. The flecked white-blossom tree, the red flowerbed, and the figure hold most of the detail; the large dark green mass and the lawn give steadier stretches.

Deep greens with red and white accents read classic and calm — fits a living room, bedroom, or study.

The dark foliage decides this at 36: the greens run through many close, shadowed tones that need the extra steps to keep depth, and the pale dress needs several near-whites against them. 24 would flatten the green mass into a block. We recommend the 36-color version for this design.
